In general, contrast is your friend; otherwise, a room becomes just ho-hum and flat. How much contrast, however, is a matter of personality. Introduce contrast with your decor or with an inherent accent … like a tile band!
Combined with a wide expanse of low-contrast tile (white tile, white grout), just a hint of higher-contrast color or texture activates the entire space.
